The 1975, a four piece indie rock band from Cheshire, consisting of members, Matt Healy (lead vocals & rhythm guitar), Adam Hann (lead guitar), Ross MacDonald (bass) & George Daniel (drums). They have been playing together, as teenagers, since 2002 and began playing covers of punk songs in local clubs. They had numerous names before settling on The 1975, including 'Bigsleep', 'The Slowdown' & 'Forever Enjoying Sex'. Before their first album, they released four EPs - 'Facedown', 'Sex', 'Music For Cars' & 'IV'. In late 2013 they released their first album through Dirty Hit, a British record label, and Polydor. Next year they are due to release their second album.

The 1975 were one of those bands I'd never thought I'd get the chance to see. This is purely because of how popular they are, and how many more people are attracted to their music. Fortunately, a friend couldn't attend this gig, so offered them them to me, and I couldn't say no!

We started the afternoon with exploring around Brighton. To me, Brighton is like a second home. I love the atmosphere and just the town in general. We went down to the beach front, along the pier, and surprisingly it wasn't very cold! We had a quick dinner before making our way down to the venue.

Queuing was an absolute nightmare. It was the most unorganised queue I have ever seen/experienced. There were two queues and no security around to maintain it or for us to ask which queue was which! My friends and I ended up joining the back of both queues and see which one moved quicker once doors opened.

Once we were finally inside, we had a quick look at the merch - I wish I could have bought something but I don't think my student loan would stretch that far!

The support act was Rat Boy, a British musician from Chelmsford. I was really surprised at the genre of music it was. I'd say it was a mix between indie rock and hip hop. I did enjoy it and I think it was a great opening act, he kept the momentum and atmosphere at a high. He played a variety of songs, all original, which in a way is good because he's showing his talent and songs off to potential fans, but, also it would have been nice to get the audience, who didn't know any of his songs, involved by playing a cover.

After a half hour break, it was time for The 1975. The energy in the room was upbeat and enthusiastic. It made the whole experience even more amazing. I had seats on the south balcony, so was directly opposite the stage. This is the main thing I love about The Brighton Centre because it's more of a rectangle shaped room with the stage and south balcony on the long sides so they are, in theory, closer to one another. It also meant I could see the standing crowd really clearly, which during songs like 'Girls', was incredible as everyone was jumping around, having the time of their lives.

They played a lot of their new stuff, which was great because it gave an insight in what to expect from the new album next year. They did, however, play some old songs, like 'Menswear' and 'fallingforyou'. The whole stage production was incredible! I loved how they kept changing the lighting, a mix between Black & White, and Pink & Green. It seems that most of the old songs had the Black theme, whilst the new ones had the Pink theme, so maybe it could be to do with the colour schemes of the albums.. but that's just my theory!

Matt Healy's vocals are incredible. I was honestly gobsmacked. The whole show sounded even better than recordings, which only some artists/bands can achieve. I really recommend going to see them, guarantee you won't be disappointed!
